How to Pick the Best Network Marketing Company

If you’re reading this post, you’re either in a network marketing company and thinking about changing, or you’re just getting started and trying to figure out the best network marketing company to join.

In this article, I’ll outline the things you should consider when deciding the best network marketing company for you.

I’ll also share with you the top two companies we believe are the best opportunities in the industry right now.

Let’s get started.

What’s the Best Network Marketing Company for You?

First things first.

Every company out there believes they have the best products, the best people, and the best compensation plan.

Historically, people have chosen companies that their friends have introduced them to and it was more a choice of convenience than of research.

Since you’re here, I assume you believe in the industry and you’ve also been around long enough to know that there are many companies with many options out there.

Doing your homework is a great idea.

So I’ll share my opinion here but I want to encourage you to put a time limit on your research.

If you’re like me, you can get wrapped up in research.
That can go on forever if you wanted it to thanks to the power of the internet.

So pick a date and time that you want to make a decision and then stick to it.

Keep a running list of companies and if you haven’t already joined one by your pre-determined time… then it’s time to make a choice.

No company is perfect.
No upline is perfect.

But great is good enough.
Now let’s get into the nitty-gritty.

Minimum Start-Up Cost of the Best
Network Marketing Company

In this section, we’ll discuss network marketing start up costs.

Typically this includes a sign-up fee and the cost for your first product order.

Start up fees can be anywhere and everywhere.

I’ve seen zero dollar startup and I’ve seen start-up costs in the $5,000 and up range.

What you want to look at initially is the minimum cost to start.

If it’s a direct sales company, you often have to order a ton of merchandise to start.

We steer clear of those companies.

With advancements in technology these days, a great network marketing company should drop ship all your orders to your customers and recruits for you.

That means THEY ship it, you get credit for it.
That is definitely something I would be paying attention to.

There’s absolutely no reason you should be required to buy a huge amount of inventory to get started.

That’s the old model and it’s how people end up with $10,000 worth of junk in their garage.

Monthly Operating Cost of Being in an MLM Business

The next thing you want to look at is the minimum monthly operating cost to stay in business and stay qualified to get paid.

This includes autoship products as well as any other tools you plan to use (clickfunnels, advertising, web hosting, etc.)

There are a lot of people that like to promote easy and fast.

Easy and fast is a myth.

Even those that seem to go easy and fast usually do it because they took the long road and developed themselves as leaders in a different industry.

There are no shortcuts.
You are opening a business, go in with that attitude.

You may not be profitable right out of the gates so you want to make sure your business is sustainable… until it’s profitable.

Type of MLM Products

There are all types of products.

Generally, we always recommend consumable products and monthly consumable health products are our first choice.

There are a few reasons for this.

First, if it’s consumable, customers will reorder forever if they find a product they love.

Secondly, if it’s a health supplement, made to take everyday, the reorders typically occur every single month.

That makes for sustainable income.

Most people have their expenses set up by the month. Monthly mortgage, monthly car payment, gym payment, cable payment, cell phone service, etc.

It is natural to be on a monthly payment plus, you want recurring revenue to be monthly to offset your own monthly expenses.

Compare these consumable health supplements (vitamins, weight loss, all natural antioxidants) for a moment with facial makeup.

Facial makeup is consumable.

However, it may take months or years for a customer to completely consume a make up product depending on how often they use it.

Even if they use it everyday it could take a while.

Our company has a consumable facial cream product my wife uses every single day and it still takes a couple months to go through it.

Consumable makeup and face creams are great to supplement an existing customer order, but if you want recurring revenue, focus on consumable products that need replenished every month.

That way it makes sense for your customers to be on a monthly autoship program and it allows you to never stockpile products.

Most network marketing and mlm programs require business builders to order every month.

If you’re consuming your order and getting health benefits from it, it makes sense.

Otherwise, your business builders are simply stockpiling merchandise and it feels a lot like the old-time mlm model of over-ordering products that are never sold or used.

Things have changed. As I said, there is no longer a reason to stockpile product.

Don’t forget, you also want to make sure your consumable products are shipped directly to your customers from the corporate office.

If you’re running around doing parties to sell merchandise or deliver merchandise, it defeats what we feel is the greatest benefit of network marketing (passive income).

Lastly, non-consumable programs such as clothing or cookware can usually be categorized as direct sales programs. Yes, you can build a team, but the focus is on selling direct to the customer.

Plus, as mentioned, these programs usually require you to load the front end of your business with a few thousand dollars of merchandise.

This is your “store”. You can’t be in business without merchandise (or so they say).

We say, “thanks… but no thanks” to that business model.

MLM Company Policies for Online Marketing

I won’t spend a lot of time here but it’s worth a mention.

If you happen to be looking at a company, be sure they allow for online marketing.

The world has changed.

If they aren’t with the times now, don’t expect them to be in front of the curve on anything else.

Longevity of Network Marketing Company

This one is a catch 22.

You want a company that will be around for a long time.

The best indicator of that is to that they’ve been around for a while already.

However, there is something to be said of excitement and newness in this industry.

Getting in on “ground floor” opportunities is a little like rolling the dice.

Maybe they’ll last… maybe they won’t.

So do your best to find a company that has a little longevity and that seems to have everything in place for a very long run (by “long” I mean hopefully forever).

Our recommendation is to try to join a company that has been around a few years but is new enough that people haven’t heard of it or they haven’t hit massive momentum yet.

FYI: It just so happens our company fits that particular recommendation (for now).

Momentum is starting to build, so now is the best time to get in and get going.

Network Marketing and MLM Leadership

So how do you know if a company will last or not?

Leadership is a good indicator.
Scratch that.
Leadership is an excellent indicator.

Corporate leadership- Have they done it before or is this a new experiment for them?

Upline leadership– Are there leaders in the company who have done this successfully before?

If so, it’s a good indicator that they’ll do it again and a good indicator that the corporate structure and leadership is solid.

This points a little to the corporate leadership as well.

Think about this.

If you had built 6 figures a month in a network marketing business before, would you join a company with the intent of doing it again if you didn’t take a good, strong, and solid look at the corporate leadership and corporate structure… probably not.

Would you get involved if you didn’t take a good look at the compensation model?

Definitely not.

Lots of upline leadership with experience is the opposite of a red flag.

It’s social proof that experienced network marketers trust the corporate leadership team to get product out on time, commissions out on time, and in their ability to keep up with growth.

So if the company is fairly new and there are experience leaders building the business… that’s a good indicator it’s a very strong mlm opportunity.

FYI: Our current company falls into this category as well. Many of our top earners have done built massive businesses before and they’ve hitched themselves to this opportunity and this company.

MLM Compensation Plan

This is the last piece I’ll discuss and everybody has their own views on this.

The truth is, most compensation plans of reputable companies have strong earning opportunities.

That’s why this section is last.

It’s important, but more important is the strength of the company and leadership.

If the company fails or is mismanaged and can’t pay out the compensation plan, all your hard work goes down the drain.

That being said, I’ve said it many times but I’ll repeat it here for my new readers… if you are looking for a long term compensation plan, the binary compensation plan is currently the strongest model in the marketplace.

The main reason for this is that it pays for infinite depth.

Experience has shown me that anybody seriously working the business model eventually has 1 leg that takes off and leaves the other leg in the dust.

That’s a good thing, it’s the first rung of the passive income ladder.

Now that leg (or team) needs less attention and you can focus your efforts on the 1 remaining leg.

The true strength of the model comes in the form of infinite depth.

If you’re thinking about a legacy business, you should be thinking in terms of decades, not months or even years.

Infinite depth means that if a rock star shows up in your business 20 years from now…. you’ll still benefit from the volume, even if they are 100,000 levels down.

Yes!¬†That’s the power of a binary compensation plan!

Conclusion

I hope this was a good primer to get you thinking about how to pick the best network marketing company for you.

If you take your time to pick a company with all of the elements, it will make your job easier in the future and give you the best opportunity for massive profitability.
